Frequently Asked Questions
-
Physiotherapists are able to provide diagnoses for a range of neuromusculoskeletal concerns.
Formal diagnosis of chronic and complex conditions can be nuanced. As allied health practitioners, we are unable to provide formal diagnoses for many of the conditions we commonly support.
Where a medical opinion or specialist referral may be appropriate, we generally recommend beginning with an initial consultation. This allows us to understand your presentation, ask relevant screening questions and complete appropriate clinical assessments where indicated.
From there, we can help guide next steps and, where appropriate, provide information that may support a conversation with your GP or another medical practitioner. We do not routinely provide specialist recommendations or referral guidance for people we have not directly assessed or supported. -
Our first consultation together is about getting to know you as a person, your journey and your current challenges, supports and aspirations.
We’ll take some time to settle into the physical (or virtual) space before asking you some questions. The information we gather in this encounter is invaluable for creating context for your concerns and helping us to work out how we can best support you.
When it comes to assessment, we start by evaluating your nervous system. For some presentations this speaks volumes, and for others specific testing may be necessary. We will ultimately be guided by your capacity, and it's not unusual for this process to stretch over a number of sessions. -
Embodied Physiotherapy is built on lived experience.
We understand the complexities of living with a brain and body that doesn’t always operate well. -
You can reach us anytime via our contact page or email. We aim to respond as soon as we can —usually within two business days.
